With any event, you will need to have a good idea on guest count and budget before you jump too far ahead in booking a space. Understanding the amenities that are a must-have so that you can see how your budget would potentially be allocated in order to host your event. Are you looking for a basic hall rental with a blank canvas or a venue such as a country club with in-house food and beverage, tables, chairs, basic linens and staffing? A rustic barn, or a modern space..understanding those comparisons can help make the selection process smoother for you in the long run.
What about a backyard you ask? In our opinion a backyard or private residence can be the most magical setting to host your wedding (with the right team & logistics of course.) Our nerdiness comes out when we get to create a custom layout and really start from a fresh canvas! Here is a real-life backyard wedding that highlights the importance of maximizing the impact of your space and using effective rendering tools for visualizing the details to ensure that everyone is on board with the moving parts. For couples who are looking for an established venue:
Do you plan to have both ceremony and reception at the same location? If so, does this require the space to be “flipped” from ceremony to reception? Or are their designated areas for ceremony + reception spaces that will need decor items repurposed?
Weather - Considering your ideal date/season does the space provide an option that works in inclement weather or would you need a plan B such as renting a tent for the outdoor ceremony, tc.
Important items to consider is the amount of access time included with your venue rental. What is your access time to load in your decor, do they allow for a rehearsal the day prior? Can you get ready onsite?
